Afinia H-Series 3D Printer

This printer is O.K. Wouldn't call it plug and play but fairly easy to get started. There is a learning curve and the manual is vague at times. Calibrating the table height to the nozzle was confusing even with the manual but we eventually figured it out. Thought their would be some sort of design program to get started on your own objects, but there is only a print driver. If it's cold where you live below 50 Fahrenheit, make sure to let the printing table warm to 100 Celsius before starting, otherwise your project may not stick. Makes it easier to remove when done also. You have to check on it periodically, as we had the filament get tangled multiple times. Once the printer errors you have start all over. The extruder stopped working twice and both times a piece of plastic was stuck at the entrance of the extruder and had to be removed to get it going again. Not sure what the real world use for it is yet other than prototyping but I did make a button for an old stopwatch that had broke and it worked great. The natural filament that came with the machine is strong compared to the less expensive red and black filament we purchased separately. It's nice that it comes with the the tools you need to get started. I quickly ran out of ideas for things to print. Still a novelty I believe at this point but the future looks promising. Take this review with a grain a salt since this is the only 3D printer I have used so far. I give 3 stars with the cheaper filament and 4 with the roll that came with it.

When I first started researching 3D printing, I noticed that a lot of the 3D printing community were very into making their own printers, tweaking, upgrading, etc. I realized that while this was cool, I really just wanted something that worked out of the box. 3D printing is a means to an end for me, and I really appreciate that Afinia offers an affordable, high-quality, and easy to use printer for those of us that just want to print stuff. I really don't think you could make it easier to get excellent results so quickly. If you're not interested in spending valuable time building your own printer, then this is an excellent choice.

Very satisfied with Afinia 3D printer. Software works well. Machine does a good job making models. Accuracy is excellent based on this printing technology. Setup took a bit of time getting the platform level and printing height set. Have made many models for engineering school and old car restoration. Best to withdraw filament after a printing job. Have had filament stick and had to drill out nozzle.

I am a Mechanical Engineer with 23 years of product development experience. I have worked at several fortune 100 companies and have used several different kinds/brands of expensive 3d printers. The AFINIA H479 3D printer works very well and the output is comparible to machines I have used. I was very surprised and amazed at how the printer and software handled a small helical gear (1.25" dia. X 0.375" tall X 48 teeth.) Printed gear was functional. Start up kit was complete and set-up straight forward. Software occasionally hangs up when sending a print job from the PC to the printer, but a reset of the printer resolves the issue. I would like to see some software enhancements that will provide you control over the fixed wall thickness of 1.5mm. I would also like to see the software "solid" function provide a more refined internal print matrix to achieve improved part density. This is a great product for the money.
